Winning snap is top of the shops

Nida Mozuraite’s photograph featuring the illuminated dome at Trinity Leeds shopping centre took first place in the contest’s environmental category .

In his submission, Nida said: “This is a photograph taken at night, when the most iconic shopping centre of Leeds is emitting various kinds of light through the magnificent transparent globe. It is a truly overwhelming feeling being so close to this great glass globe, looking down at the motion of miniature people. Leeds is undeniably spectacular, and is a city to be proud of.”

The environmental category asked for pictures in which the surroundings and people depicted worked together to say something about the image.

Commenting on the entry, the judge said: “A view not commonly seen in the Trinity shopping centre. There is an air of mystery to this which is intriguing.”

The Changing Faces of Leeds exhibition, which runs until June 5 at Leeds City Museum, features photographs of generations of people who have lived or worked in the city.

The contest saw entries flood in from more than 500 local amateur photographers from all walks of life.

A selection of the best were chosen by the museum team to appear in the final display.

Councillor Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council, said: “With our bid to be named European Capital of Culture 2023 gathering pace, we’re determined that everyone has the opportunity to feel part of culture in Leeds, and this exhibition typifies that ambition perfectly.”

The exhibition also features a series of workshops and events for children and adults.
