This is why Yates in Leeds city centre is closing

The owners of the Yates pub brand have confirmed why their Boar Lane bar is shutting.

Stonegate will re-open the site on December 8 as a Slug and Lettuce cocktail bar and restaurant. They have already converted the old Yates 'party pub' on Woodhouse Lane into Australian-themed bar Walkabout.

The decision is part of a wider development of the chain's portfolio to meet changing customer needs and preferences.

“Yates is a much-loved brand and will always have its place on the UK high street in line with consumer demand. Stonegate continuously changes and develops its formats within the group portfolio to address both the competitive landscape locally and meet the ever-evolving demands of the high street”.

The company has spent £500,000 refitting the Boar Lane building, which is just a short walk from another Slug and Lettuce on Park Row,

It will have a cocktail masterclass station where visitors can book classes, 'birdcage' seating areas, an extensive food menu and a cocktail list.
