This is why Leeds commuters were late for work

DRIVERS travelling into Leeds city centre faced traffic chaos as a burst water main and two crashes caused lengthy delays.

A burst water main flooded Armley Gyratory and led to its closure during yesterday morning’s rush hour.

Yorkshire Water, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Leeds City Council workers rushed to the scene as water flooded from a nearby estate.

The water also hit a British Gas centre and some homes and businesses were left without water.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “This issue was caused by a burst water main in a nearby estate which flowed into the British Gas Centre and across 
the Gyratory.

“West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue used emergency pumps to clear the volume, supported by Yorkshire Water.”

Meanwhile, one lane of the clockwise M621 was closed after a two-car accident just after 6.30am yesterday.

It happened between junction 27 for the M62 at Gildersome and junction one for the M621 at Beeston.

That accident involved a Vauxhall Meriva and a white Peugeot.

One person suffered minor injuries and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment.

And an accident later in the morning caused major delays on the M62 in Leeds.

Two lanes of the westbound M62 at junction 28 for Tingley were closed after three cars were involved in a collision.

Police were called just before 8.30am after reports of a crash involving a black Range Rover, a white BMW and a grey Ford.

Police said there were no reports of injuries.
