Women across the country have shared their stories of feeling unsafe as they go about their daily lives, promoted by the disappearance of Sarah Everard who was found dead in Kent last week.

Women in Leeds have come together to say they don't want to feel scared on the city's streets anymore, as research from UN Women UK found that 97 per cent of young women have been sexually harassed.

The operations support area manager of WYFRS, Dave Teggart, added that help is available even when a station isn't staffed.

He said: "There is a phone outside that will connect you to our Control."

The fire service has been praised on social media for issuing the guidance.

One Twitter user said: "Terrific message to put out there, thank you."

Another woman added: "Thank you and bravo."
