Police issue urgent warning after black ice spotted in Leeds
Police have warned drivers and the public after reports of black ice in Leeds.
There have been reports of black ice around the Methley and Swillington areas of Leeds, West Yorkshire Police said on twitter.
Some social media users also reported black ice on Leeds and Bradford road.
One resident of LS6 also said his car had skidded on black ice this morning.
Black ice, sometimes called clear ice, is a thin coating of glaze ice on a surface, especially on roads.
The ice itself is not black, but visually transparent, allowing the often black road below to be seen through it.
At low temperatures, black ice can form on roadways when the moisture from vehicle exhausts condenses on the road surface.
