It was a dull and misty start for most this morning, with what the Met Office described as “extensive low cloud”, especially over hilly areas.

That is only set to intensify as the day goes on and light rain slowly gets heavier. Tonight will also be cloudy with outbreaks of rain, which will get heavier towards dawn. There will be extensive hill fog with light winds throughout the night, before cloudy and rainy weather is brought to Leeds through tomorrow morning.

That will turn drier and brighter into the afternoon, with some sunny spells possible. From Friday and through the weekend, the outlook is unsettled with some heavy showers and sunny intervals. The showers will merge into longer spells of rain over the weekend. Mist and fog will also be present in places, especially higher up.

It comes as a yellow weather warning was in force across Yorkshire from 2am today until 11am because of fog. People were told by the Met Office to expect disruption, with longer journey times possible and difficult driving conditions.
