Leeds flooding: Five urgent flood warnings in Leeds as river levels peak overnight

Five urgent flood warnings and three flood alerts are in place across Leeds on Thursday morning.

The warnings were issued on Wednesday as Storm Christoph brought persistent heavy rain to the city.

River levels continued to rise and peaked overnight after heavy showers and some snow.

When a flood warning is issued, residents at risk are advised to immediately turn off their gas, water and electricity.

They should move belongings, family and pets upstairs or to safety and move their car to a safe place.

Here is the latest from the Environment Agency on flood warnings across Leeds:

Bramham Beck at Bramham​

River levels have risen as a result of heavy rainfall and flooding of property is imminent, the Environment Angency has said.

Areas most at risk are properties along New Road.

Residents are advised to put their flood plan into action and activate any property flood protection products they may have, such as flood barriers and air brick covers.

Collingham Beck at Collingham

The level of the River Wharfe at Collingham is 3.69m and is expected to begin to fall on Thursday morning.

The level of Bardsey Beck at Bardsey is 1.30m and rising into early Thursday morning.

Areas most at risk of flooding are at the lower end of Collingham Beck near the River Wharfe.

River Aire at Allerton Ings, Barnsdale Road and Properties

River levels remain elevated as a result of the heavy and persistent rainfall.

The spillway at Allerton Ings is operating and the washlands are filling. Barnsdale Road has flooded.

The Environment Agency expects the spillway to continue to operate throughout Thursday

River Calder at Methley and Mickletown

River levels on the River Calder at Methley continue to remain high as a result of the heavy and persistent rainfall.

They are forecast to remain high before starting to fall later this afternoon.

Areas most at risk of flooding are properties in the Methley and Mickletown area.

River Calder at Whitwood Mere

The River Calder is also at risk of flooding at Whitwood Mere, just outside the Leeds boundary.

Properties in the area are at risk of flooding as the River Calder remains high.

There are three additional flood alerts in place across Leeds, where residents at risk are advised to activate their flood defences and 'be prepared'.

Middle River Aire catchment

River levels are forecast to continue to remain elevated across the Middle River Aire Catchment as a result of persistent rainfall.

The main band of rain associated with Storm Christoph has now passed.

However flooding of property, roads and farmland is still possible. Areas most at risk are low lying land, roads and farmland.

Wyke Beck, Meanwood Beck and Wortley Beck catchments​

River levels are forecast to continue to remain elevated across the Wyke Beck, Meanwood Beck and Wortley Beck Catchments as a result of persistent rainfall.

Fooding of property, roads and farmland is still possible. Areas most at risk are low lying land, roads and farmland.

Lower River Wharfe

The flood alert for the lower River Wharfe remains in force.

Flooding of low-lying land and roads is possible on Thursday.

The River Wharfe has risen in response to recent rainfall. Levels in Ilkley, Otley, Wetherby and Tadcaster have peaked.
