The city's primary routes and key cycle routes will be treated, along with some pavements in the city centre.

A council spokesperson said: "A mostly cloudy night with wintry showers which may leave a covering of snow, mainly over hills but possibly down to lower levels.

"Road surfaces at or below freezing again, so expect icy conditions.

"Primary routes and key cycle routes will be treated at 7:30pm and again at 4am, along with some city centre paved areas. Please drive carefully."

The yellow weather warning for snow and ice in Leeds is in place from Thursday at 5pm until Friday at 11am.

The Met Office warning says to expect icy surfaces on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

Some roads and railways are likely to be affected, it adds, with longer journey times by road, bus and train.
