First snow of 2020 hits Leeds city centre as temperatures set to plummet

Snow showers have hit Leeds city centre this morning as temperatures are set to plummet overnight.

The sleet and snow is expected to turn into heavy rain this afternoon, with torrential showers forecast for Leeds at 5pm.

The Met Office predicts icy patches will develop by the morning, with temperatures dropping to 0C.

The overnight forecast says: "Rather windy and feeling cold, with showers gradually easing.

"Any snow will become confined to the highest hills, but there will be a chance of icy patches developing by dawn.

"Minimum temperature 0C."

Traffic on the M62 is at a standstill and motorists are warned to expect 'long delays' due to the snow.
