Virgin announces extra Leeds to London train service

WHISPER IT quietly, but there are just 11 weeks left until Christmas, and to cope with seasonal demand, details have been released about train services connecting Yorkshire with the capital in the run up to the festive period.

London attracts Christmas shoppers from all over the country, and with this in mind Virgin Trains has confirmed that it will launch additional services on its route between Leeds and London King’s Cross, starting this weekend.

An extra service will leave Leeds train station at 9.40am on Saturdays, beginning on October 17. The new service will also call at Wakefield Westgate before arriving at London King’s Cross at 11.51am.

The return service will depart London at 7.04pm and will arrive in Leeds at 9.21pm.

Virgin Trains has also released tickets for travel during the festive period, meaning that customers travelling on the East Coast route can book tickets for travel up to 3 January 2016 across its network, and for most weekdays until 23 March 2016 on routes between London, York, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Leeds.

Alison Watson, customer experience director at Virgin Trains, said: “We’re delighted to launch tickets for travel during the busy festive period along with the additional services between Leeds and London. These services will be great for leisure travellers and those families wishing to head to London in the run-up to Christmas.”

Virgin Trains customers travelling in a group of between three and nine people are eligible for a 20 per cent booking discount on Advance tickets via the Virgin Trains East Coast website.
