Video: This is the rare and eye-watering moment a penguin lays an egg and the dad seems delighted by the birth.

Female Macaroni Penguin Sweet Pea was spotted laying her egg at the Tennessee Aquarium by Loribeth Lee and animal trainer Holly Lutz who captured the arrival on a mobile phone.

The pair watched as Sweet Pea and proud dad “Paulie” were roosting in their rocky nest as the egg was laid and Paulie cheered the arrival, seconds after the egg appeared. The marine experts at the aquarium witnessed the incredible moment , sharing in the penguins’ excitement for a start to the 2016 nesting season. Aquarium senior aviculturist Loribeth said: “Macaronis often swing their heads from side to side and let out very loud calls as a sign of courtship during nesting season. “But it was extra sweet to catch Paulie vocalising right after Sweet Pea laid her egg.”
