Video: Police not seeking suspects over bodies of man and woman found stabbed to death in Barnsley bungalow
NEIGHBOURS spoke of their shock after the bodies of a man and a woman were found at a semi-detached bungalow next to a school in a quiet cul-de-sac in the Brierely area of Barnsley yesterday.
Emergency services were called to an address in Beech Close just after 12.30pm on Saturday following reports that the bodies of a man and a woman had been found inside.
South Yorkshire Police released a statement this morning saying a post-mortem had revealed the 67-year-old man and 57-year-old woman died from stab wounds.
Detectives investigating the case say they “are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths”.
The force said in its statement: “Relatives are receiving support from specialist officers and they have asked that their privacy be respected at this difficult time. Officers are in liaison with the coroner.”
Crime scene investigators dressed in white overalls were at the property over the weekend as a South Yorkshire Police investigation into the incident continued.
Residents on Beech Close said a couple, who are parents and grandparents, have lived at the bungalow for around 30 years.
One neighbour, who didn’t want to be named, said the man is aged in his sixties, adding: “They are a lovely couple.”
Another resident of the cul-de-sac in Brierley, which is less than two miles from Hemsworth in Wakefield district, said: “We are totally shocked at what has happened.”
A third neighbour on Beech Close, which is next to Brierley C of E Primary School, said: “It is a shock because they are such a lovely couple. They are just ordinary people that have got kids and grandkids. They have never had any problems with anybody on the street. It is just a shock to everybody.”
Another neighbour said: “Everybody is upset, You don’t expect it so close to home.”
