Video: Gung-Ho! 5,000 take on Britain's biggest obstacle course in Leeds

Gung-Ho! featured the world’s biggest bouncy inflatable and Europe’s tallest blow-up slide over an obstacle course, and was the brainchild of Cbeebies presenter Alex Winters.

Alex said: “We had people of all ages, including some of the oldest people I’ve ever seen take part in Gung-Ho!. It’s amazing to see people like that all the way down to little ones, with so many dressed up in fantastic costumes.

“What was lovely to see was so many people taking part for charity. Every wave that we set off there were lots of people running to raise money for so many different charities, including our local charity partner Candlelighters and national partner Children in Need.

“Seeing so many people having a great time slipping and sliding over obstacles but also doing their bit for good causes is what it’s all about.”

Amongst other charities, money was raised for Leeds-based children’s cancer charity Candlelighters and Children in Need.

Liz Firth, from Bingley, was running to raise money for Candlelighters, who have helped her and her family since diaghter Hollie, six, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia on Christmas Eve in December 2014.

Hollie has since undergone a tough treatment programme which is due to finish in December this year.

Candlelighters have supported Liz, 38, husband Jamie, 43, son Cameron, four, and Hollie through the ordeal and they wanted to do something to give something back to the charity.

Liz, who ran the race with three friends as part of ‘Team Hollie’, raising £350 in the process, said: “They have been fantastic and we just wanted to give something back to them to help them continue to carry out their work supporting other families like ours.

“From the minute she was diagnosed they have been there. They have helped to keep all of our spirits up, helped us deal with the disease and even arranged to send us on a week’s holiday together. We wouldn’t have gotten through it without them.

“At the moment Hollie is doing really well. We have to take her to hospital once a month and on one of the visits I saw the poster for Gung-Ho! and thought it looked loads of fun, so off we went.

“We all had a brilliant day - Hollie came and cheered me on and loved it, she even wanted to have a go! I don’t run at all normally but this was something different and we had an absolute blast. It was hilarious.

“We gave it everything we had and got over every obstacle. We were very proud of ourselves at the end.”
