Video: Gang’s fruitless raid on storage warehouse

A gang broke into a storage warehouse in broad daylight before leaving empty handed.

The group targeted P Smith and Sons Removals’ warehouse in Pontefract on Friday, August 21.

CCTV footage shows the men pulling up outside the Monkhill Lane site in a navy-coloured people carrier at around noon.

One of the men then breaks the lock on a door to the warehouse while another keeps guard.

He then goes into the building before the gang drive off in the car after they triggered the burglar alarm.

Gillian Kelsey, co-owner of P Smith and Sons, said: “Thankfully, the gang didn’t take anything but we just can’t believe they’d do it in broad daylight.

“Hopefully somebody is going to recognise them from the CCTV images and can help track them down.

“The cost of the damage is minimal. They only actually broke the clip of the lock rather than the lock itself but they need catching.”

Insp Geoff Carter, of Pontefract and Knottingley neighbourhood police team, said: “We are currently investigating whether the car the suspects have used in this case has been involved in other crimes in the area and it is important we track these criminals down.

“If anybody has any information about the incident or recognises the suspects please get in touch.”
