Video: Ex-Leeds Rhinos star tackles new challenge

The former Rhinos star is getting in the running for the Plusnet Leeds Half Marathon.

Jamie, 38, hung up his boots last year after the Rhinos’ triumphant treble-winning season – but is now preparing to pull on his trainers for his first ever half marathon on Sunday, May 8.

Jamie, who captained both Great Britain and England, said: “I know it’s going to be a tough challenge but I’m looking forward to taking on my first half marathon in Leeds.

“It should provide the perfect motivation to help me keep fit.

“I know the event always attracts lots of spectators and hopefully their support will help me get round the course.”

The event was officially launched today by organisers Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All.

Charlie Tatman, event manager at Run For All, said: “There is always a great buzz in the city on race day and we are confident this year’s event will be another winner.”

Around 9,000 people signed up for last year’s event, raising £300,000 for charity.

Councillor Lisa Mulherin, Leeds City Council’s executive member for health, wellbeing and adults, said: “The Leeds Half Marathon always creates a tremendous amount of excitement in the city and it’s very encouraging to see so many people from different walks of life get so enthusiastic about the event year after year.”

The route starts outside Leeds Town Hall on The Headrow and heads out of the city centre before returning to the finish line near Millennium Square.
