Video: Bonfire night goes off with a bang in Leeds
The sparkling event attracted an estimated crowd of 70,000 people, who all swarmed onto Soldiers Field to keep warm by the big bonfire.
And it certainly impressed six-year-old Conor Butterworth, who watched the firework spectacular alongside his father Andy.
Conor, from Oakwood, said: “I like the big bangs of the fireworks, and the crackle that the sparklers make.”
Dad Andy Butterworth said: “This is my third year coming here with Conor. It’s convenient and the fireworks are great.”
Five-year-old Isaac Scurrah attended with his mother Catherine, who has fond memories of the event herself.
“I’ve been coming here since I was a kid. The fireworks are fantastic and it’s great for the kids. There’s a great atmosphere.”
Other council-run bonfires were held at East End Park, Springhead Park, Woodhouse Moor, Middleton Park and Bramley Park.
Councillor Mark Dobson, Leeds City Council’s executive member for cleaner, safer and stronger communities, said: “Bonfire Night is always a brilliant night out for all the family. All of our bonfires are extremely popular.
“I would like to offer a big thank you to council staff, sponsors and partners who make the displays so special.”
