Vegan comfort food pop-up to take residency at legendary Leeds bar

A popular vegan food pop-up is set to take root at the legendary rock and roll bar, Oporto, on Call Lane this March.

The comfort food eatery, Knave's Kitchen, will bring its unique menu of vegan fried 'chicken' and plant-based junk food to Leeds diners from Thursday 29 March.

The entirely vegan menu is crafted using seitan, a plant-based protein which looks, feels and tastes like real meat, as well as delicious tofu alternatives.

On offer will be a range of comfort dishes and deep fried delights which include onion bhaji burgers, curries and a 'Mill Hill' kebab, inspired by Leeds' infamous after-hours eatery.

Housed in Oporto's newly-refurbished second room, customers can dine inside, take away or order via Deliveroo (from early April) and those who opt to eat in will have a menu of cocktails, vegan burgers, craft beers and premium spirits to enjoy, curated by Oporto's talented bar team.

The array of dining options means customers can enjoy an accessible dining experience which aims to please vegans, veggies and curious foodies alike, who want to discover new foods and flavours.

An exciting new venture

Having long been a popular Leeds haunt and a pioneer of the city's nightlife scene, it is hoped the new residency will attract more people to Oporto and offer a more exciting array of options for vegan diners.

"The myth that vegan food is boring and flavourless has been pretty firmly debunked over the last couple of years," says Paul Lane, Director at Leelex which owns Oporto, Neon Cactus and Jake's Bar.

"Knave's Kitchen is here to challenge that old misconception even further with its unique style of vegan food.

"There won't be a kale leaf or lentil in sight. Customers can expect 100 per cent junk food with a menu of everyone's favourite comfort food dishes and we're confident we can win over even the most die-hard carnivores and vegan-skeptics."

In addition to the launch of Knave's Kitchen, it is also an exciting time for Oporto as it prepares to re-launch with a newly refurbished interior, a new drinks menu and food offering, all the while still hosting regular music nights to retain the rock 'n' roll antics it's well known for.

Knave's Kitchen will launch on 29 March 2018 and will be open daily between 12pm and 10pm.
