Updated: Teenage boy killed after touching railway cables near Wakefield named

Kyle Bradley, 16, was pronounced dead at sidings in Wrenthorpe, near Wakefield in West Yorkshire yesterday evening.

British Transport Police said enquiries were today continuing to establish the full circumstances of Kyle’s death.

A BTP spokesman said a 16-year-old boy and 18-year-old woman, who were with Kyle at the time and were taken to Pinderfields Hospital, have since been released following treatment.

He added: “At this stage it would appear he (Kyle) had climbed on to a freight train and came in to contact with the power lines.

“His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the local coroner.

“The Office of Rail Regulation has been informed and will carry out its own investigation.”

Tributes have been posted online to Kyle, who attended Cathedral Academy on Thornes Road in Wakefield.

Principal Tay Warren tweeted: “We are sorry to confirm that the tragic news about one of our students, Kyle Bradley, is true. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Dozens of posts have appeared on Kyle’s Facebook page, including one from his sister Kayleigh, which said: “We love him and miss him dearly. Another boy taken from this earth because of something so sudden. Us, his family loves him to bits and his is now flying high with another member of his close family, which better look after him up their. Love you brother.”

Friends also paid tribute.

Alyx Humphreys wrote: “RIP Kyle, I’m gonna miss you loads and I love you, and our chats, you were the funniest and craziest kid I had ever known.”

Charlotte Preece posted: “RIP Kyle... You made me feel so welcome and introduced me to new people who are now my mates. Love ya bro x.”

Tyler Drake wrote: “I’ve met you plenty of times to know you’re an amazing young lad, taken away too soon. I’ll miss our little banter sessions at the cathedral. RIP.”

Chloe Louise Baldwin posted: “Kyle you were a brother to me and I’ve always loved you for you. Sleep tight handsome heaven have gained another angel.”

Friends of Kyle will hold a vigil and balloon release for Kyle this evening at Wakefield’s Thornes Park, at 6.30pm.
