Unseen photos of city's past on new calendar

Nostalgic Facebook group Leeds Back in the Day will launch their brand new 2017 calendar in the historic surroundings of the city's Grand Arcade.

Fans of the page - which has over 50,600 ‘Likes’ on the social network - will get the chance to meet its creator Jason Cullen at the free event tomorrow (11am-6pm).

The launch is part of the Leeds Heritage Open Day Weekend, and the day will include behind-the-scenes tours of the building’s impressive clock, an exhibition of the Grand Arcade’s history from 1897 to the present day and other activities.

The Leeds Back in the Day calendar is an annual edition featuring photographs from the city’s past, many of which have never been published before.

Some highlights in this year’s calendar include previously unseen photographs of City Square, steam trains on lines across Leeds, and five giants of the High Street that shoppers will fondly remember.

Proceeds from the sale of this year’s calendar will go to local charity Leeds Feline Friends.

“This is without doubt the biggest and best Leeds Back in the Day calendar so far - if you have enjoyed our previous calendars you will love this one,” said founder Jason.

For those who can’t attend the launch day, the calendar will be available to purchase via the Facebook page from Monday September 12.

Copies will also be on sale at Our Handmade Collective in the Grand Arcade, the independent store which has an official association with the calendar’s production team.
