Two men dead in Featherstone crash

Two men in their 20s have died in a crash in Featherstone, police said today.

Police said the men were both from the local area and were killed after the orange Ford Focus ST they were travelling in hit a lamp post after going off the road on a bend. The car had been travelling from Wakefield when the incident took place.

West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision and Enquiry Team (MCET) would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash at 11.50pm last night on Wakefield Road at the junction with Common Side Lane in Featherstone.

Road closures were put in place around the scene while emergency services carried out investigation work, but have now all been lifted.

Sgt Ann Drury from the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “Enquiries remain ongoing today into what has clearly been a significant incident on the districts roads which has sadly resulted in two fatalities.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who saw the collision itself and anyone who saw the vehicle and the manner in which it was being driven prior to the collision.

“Anyone who has information is asked to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101.”
