Two arrested following mass brawl

Two men have been arrested following a mass brawl that broke out in Dewsbury town centre late at night.

Officers were called at 11.23pm on Tuesday to reports of a fight near a car park close to Cliffe Street where a number of people were believed to be involved in the incident.

A 28-year-man received minor injuries which required hospital treatment.

Detective Inspector Ian Thornes, of Kirklees District CID, said: “This appears to be an isolated incident and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“We are working closely with our partners and the community and neighbourhood policing patrols in the area will be increased in a bid to reassure local residents.”

Two men, aged 21 and 22 from the Wakefield area, have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and remain in police custody.

Several other people are also being sought in connection with the incident.
