Turf Talk: Lightscameraction can take centre stage in Autumn Sprint

Lightscameraction has enough talent to take high rank in the SIS Autumn Sprint Handicap at Leicester tomorrow.

The four-year-old chestnut is perhaps better known for his all-weather exploits as he claimed the considerable scalp of Take Cover at Lingfield in February.

But he is certainly no slouch on the turf, either, and deserves close inspection ahead of this pretty valuable five-furlong dash.

Lightscameraction crucially needs fast ground to be at his best, which he should get if the forecast for the Leicestershire region is anything to go by.

He also must step up on his form at Haydock last month – but, possibly, not by a great deal.

The gelded son of Pastoral Pursuits finished fifth in a tight sprint handicap on Merseyside, but he was only beaten a length and a quarter by Harry Hurricane.

That was a good effort as he was too keen for a long way, while it was a touch dispiriting to see him hang to his right close home.

It is, then, not a great surprise to see trainer Gay Kelleway reach for the cheekpieces, which served him so well on the all-weather during the winter.

Jamie Spencer’s appointment is also an eyecatching booking in a race in which he gets a heck of a lot of weight from the likes of Boom The Groom and Mirza.

Intransigent returned to somewhere near his best at Chester last time and can be supported with a touch of optimism in the Wreake Handicap.

Andrew Balding’s seven-year-old has had a year to forget, but he is handicapped accordingly and certainly put his best foot forward in a seven-furlong handicap on the Roodee in September.

The gelded son of Trans Island was no match for impressive winner Above The Rest, but he had the rest of the field well cooked and really ought to go well off a mark of 94.
