Many parents took to social media to complain about the delay to their usual school-run journey.

However, CityFibre - who have contracted the work - said a new network of full fibre broadband is being implemented in Leeds.

Once construction is complete, the company said households in Leeds will be among the first in the UK to access full fibre broadband.

The work is set to be completed by the end of February, CityFibre said.

CityFibre also thanked residents and commuters for their patience with any delays due to the temporary traffic lights.

Kim Johnston, City Manager at CityFibre, said: “CityFibre is investing £120m into Leeds to transform its digital infrastructure and bring next generation full fibre connectivity to almost every home and business in the city.

"This is a major undertaking and we do everything we can to minimise disruption.

“We work closely with Leeds City Council to plan our works and aim to complete them in the shortest possible time.

"We are due to finish our works on Swinnow Lane towards the end of January and thank residents and commuters for their patience with any delays they may have encountered due to temporary traffic lights.

“As we roll out the new network, we will continue to abide by all council processes and keep residents updated on planned works.

"Once construction is complete, households in Leeds will be among the first in the UK to access full fibre broadband, unlocking a new world of digital opportunity.”
