Severe delays on M62 in West Yorkshire as brakes lock on fuel tanker

There are severe delays on the M62 in West Yorkshire tonight after a laden fuel tanker broke down.

Traffic is building westbound from J25 to J24 near Ainley Top.

The brakes on the tanker have locked and it couldn't be moved, Highways Yorkshire said in a tweet.

Their tweet said: "westbound J25 to J24 Long delays through this section of road due to a fully laden fuel tanker that has broken down.

"The brakes have locked on so cannot move. Lane 1 & 2 closed.

"Recovery arranged and en-route.

"Great "Red-X" compliance prior to our arrival."

The AA said there are currently "severe delays" on the carriageway, with an average speed of just 10mph.

The service reported: "Severe delays of 18 minutes and delays easing on M62 Westbound between M62 (Hartshead Moor Services) and J24 A629 (Ainley Top). Average speed ten mph."
