From June 1 (yesterday) all double decker buses in Leeds will take a maximum of 24 passengers. A limit of 13 people will be allowed on top decks, with 11 on the bottom.

Single deckers will carry a maximum of 13 passengers at any one time.

Bus companies this represents between 25 and 30 per cent of their overall capacity.

Once the maximum number has been reached, drivers will be instructed to put a 'full' sign at the front of the vehicle.

The firm says it's added extra buses at busy times "where possible".

Trains

Northern introduced a revised timetable on May 18, which included additional trains on some routes. However, the operator says capacity has been reduced on services.

TransPennine Express increased their trains on the same day last month. They are currently running an hourly stopping service between Leeds and Huddersfield, with an extra service at peak hours.

However, passengers on their trains are limited to 20 people per carriage.

Northern has not specified a numerical limit.
