Multiple vehicles involved in M62 crash causing nine miles of traffic chaos near Leeds - police statement in full

A number of vehicles were involved in a crash this morning (Thursday) which is causing traffic chaos on the M62 westbound.

West Yorkshire Police were called to Junction 28 at Tingley at around 7.30am.

Officers said that a number of vehicles were involved in the crash but no one was injured.

The crash has caused 'long delays' between Junction 28 and Junction 29 at Lofthouse - with approximately nine miles of congestion now being reported by Highways England.

It has warned that around 90 minutes could be added to journey times this morning.

Two lanes have reopened at the scene but due to an oil spill on the carriageway it is not yet safe to open all lanes.

Leeds City Council travel information has also said the crash has resulted in congestion on surrounding roads including the M1, M621 and A650.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Call at 07.27am

"M62 west bound at Junction 28

"Number of vehicles

"No one injured."

The latest information from Highways England said: "Delays on the#M62 westbound J29 #Lofthouse to J28 #Tingley due to the ongoing collision are now around 90 minutes above normal journey times.

"Approx. 9 miles of congestion on approach to the lane closures"
