Update: Disruption on the train lines set to last until the end of Wednesday

Disruption on the train line is set to last until the end of the day on Wednesday, TransPennine has said.

This means services between Leeds and York will divert until further notice.

A TransPennine spokesperson said: “Train services running through these stations will be diverted. Disruption is expected until the end of the day on 05/05/21.

Services will divert between Leeds and York in both directions until further notice.

“Delays of 15-20 minutes will occur due to this.

“Ticket acceptance has been arranged for customers to complete journeys.

“Please note that seat availability may be limited on other operators services and you may arrive at your destination later than planned.

“Please also be aware that there may be a large number of customers travelling and social distancing may not be possible for all or part of your journey.

“Please ensure that you wear a face covering wherever possible and follow directions given by railway staff and the British Transport Police.

“Northern are conveying passengers via any reasonable route until further notice.

“Arrangements have been made for Transpennine Express rail tickets to be accepted for these journeys.

“Cross Country and London North Eastern Railway are conveying passengers between York and Newcastle in both directions until further notice.

“Arrangements have been made for Transpennine Express rail tickets to be accepted for these journeys.”

Latest information from National Rail:

A freight train has derailed in the Church Fenton area. Consequently, trains between Leeds and York via Church Fenton will be cancelled or diverted. This is expected until the end of the day.

CrossCountry

You may use your ticket on:

  • TransPennine Express via any reasonable route.
  • Northern via any reasonable route.
  • London North Eastern Railway between York / Leeds and Doncaster in both directions - Reservations are required to travel on LNER services. These can be made up to 5 minutes before departure online or at station booking offices. Please speak to a member of staff if you require assistance.

Northern

Northern trains between York and Leeds via Church Fenton will be amended to start / terminate at Micklefield, not calling at York.

Customers travelling from York for stations towards Leeds are advised to board road transport from York. Customers travelling from Leeds to York are advised to board road transport or travel on TransPennine Express / CrossCountry services.

Customers travelling from Leeds and stations towards York are advised to board the train service to Micklefield and change for road transport to York. Staff are available at Micklefield to provide assistance.

Road transport will operate as follows:

York - Leeds

07:07 York - Micklefield and then stations as required to Leeds operated by Ross Travel

08:07 York - Micklefield and then stations as required to Leeds operated by York Pullman

09:07 York - Micklefield and then stations as required to Leeds operated by J & B Travel

10:07 York - Micklefield and then stations as required to Leeds operated by Ross Travel

Micklefield - York

07:42 Micklefield - York operated by J & B

08:42 Micklefield - York operated by Ross Travel

09:42 Micklefield - York operated by York Pullman

Journey times will be extended by up to 60 minutes.

The route from Leeds - York via Harrogate is not affected by this problem.

Northern tickets will be valid on Transpennine Express,LNER and CrossCountry services between Leeds, York and Doncaster.

TransPennine Express

You may use your ticket on:

  • Northern via any reasonable route.
  • London North Eastern Railway between Newcastle and Doncaster via York in both directions - Reservations are required to travel on LNER services. These can be made up to 5 minutes before departure online or at station booking offices. Please speak to a member of staff if you require assistance.
  • East Midlands Railway between Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly in both directions.
  • Customers can connect from / to CrossCountry services at Sheffield for travel to / from the North East.
  • CrossCountry between Newcastle and Sheffield via York and Leeds in both directions.
  • Customers can connect from / to CrossCountry services at Sheffield for travel to / from the North East.
  • You may also use CrossCountry services to / from Sheffield to connect with TransPennine Express and East Midlands Railway services across the Pennines.

Rail replacement transport will be in place for 6:00 and will run between Leeds and York. These will be operated by R&S Waterson, Elite Minibus Travel, TJ’s Travel Leeds, Shaws of Whitely and York Pullman.

Trains delayed after derailment in Yorkshire

Trains have been delayed across Yorkshire this morning after a derailment.

Northern said an engineering train has suffered a derailment during the night at Church Fenton.

Train services running through Leeds, Micklefield and York stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or terminated at and started back from Micklefield.

York will not be served, Northern said.

The first affected service from Leeds will be the 06:10 Leeds - York, which will terminate at Micklefield.

Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Northern tickets will be valid on Transpennine Express, London North Eastern Railway and Cross Country services between Leeds, York and Doncaster.
