Leeds Council give update on car park charges as lockdown eases

All charges were suspended by the authority when the UK went into lockdown at the end of March.

Although lockdown measures are starting to ease and more people are returning to work, the council said today (Friday) that its car parks would stay free until at least July 4.

A spokesman said: "All council run car parks and on-street car parking will remain free until 4 July when we will review if and how we re-introduce charges.

"We'll be issuing an update then which will explain any changes in full."

The council car parks in Leeds city centre are Castle Street, Hunslet Lane, International Pool, Meadow Lane, Quarry Hill, West Street and Woodhouse Lane.

Council parking wardens returned to the streets at the end of April to crack down in people parking illegally in the city centre.

A spokeswoman said at the time: "There has been some instances where parking on yellow lines has created issues in terms of traffic flow, public safety and access, especially in the city centre.

"Leeds City Council parking officers will from this week be issuing parking penalties to vehicles parked illegally."
