Leeds bus diversions: All route changes and disruption to First Bus and Arriva services as key roads shut

There are a number of planned bus diversions and roadworks taking place across Leeds this week.

The city is set for a host of changes in 2023 that will revolutionise city travel for decades to come, including the City Square space near Leeds Station – which is set to be completed this year. The stretch has now been shut to general traffic, but buses are also being impacted by the roadworks this week.

Leeds City Square

Due to Leeds City Square changes, Wellington Street (Eastbound), Wellington Street (Westbound), Quebec Street and King Street will be closed between 8pm on Thursday and 5am on Friday, from 8pm to 11.59pm on Friday and from 5am to 11.59am on Saturday. As a result, services 4. 4F, 5, 5A, 7, 7A, 7S, 14, 15, 16, 16A, 33, 34, 40, 42, 55, 55C, 60, 65, 75, 508 & X11 will be impacted.

- 4, 4F, 16 & 16A towards Seacroft divert via Wellington Road, Ring Road, Westgate, The Headrow & Park Row (Stop City Square I).

- 4, 4F. 16 & 16A towards Bramley/Pudsey divert via Aire Street & Thirsk Row.

- 55C & 75 towards Leeds divert via Whitehall Road, Northern Street, Wellington Street, A58, Westgate & The Headrow.

- 55C & 75 towards Holbeck take normal route.

- 19 &19A towards Ireland Wood/ Tinshill divert via Boar Lane, City Square, Infirmary Street & East Parade.

- 42 towards Fearnville divert via A58, Westgate & The Headrow.

- 42 towards Old Farnley divert via Aire Street & Thirsk Row.

Leeds City Centre, Aire Street, Wellington Street and King Street

From Sunday, Aire Street, Wellington Street, King Street and Thirsk Row will be affected as part of the City Square Highways Improvements. Services 4, 4F,5, 5A, 14, 15, 16, 16A, 33, 34, 40, 42, 55, 55C, 60, 65, 75, 81, 229, 254, 255, 508, A1 and X11 will be impacted.

Buses will no longer run from stops Wellington A & B on Wellington Street and Wellington L on Aire Street. King Street will have a new stop Wellington Q also King Street and Thirsk Row will become two-way.

Pedestrians are advised to take extra care when crossing or approaching these roads, with traffic approaching from both directions from Sunday onwards.

Free shuttle bus

Leeds 2023 Year of Culture kicks off with an opening event, The Awakening, at Headingley Stadium on Saturday. There will be a free shuttle bus operating from the City Centre to the event at Headingley Stadium.
