Average speed of 5mph in Leeds city centre described as a "car park" by commuters

The AA reported an average speed of 5mph in Leeds city centre this afternoon - described as a "car park" on social media by commuters.

The AA said there are "severe delays" on the A58(M) Inner Ring Road Eastbound between A58 Wellington Road and A58 Clay Pit Lane.

The average speed on the road is just 5mph, the AA said.

Traffic is also very heavy around Kirkstall and on many approaches towards the city centre.

An ongoing protest was also included in an AA report: "Slow traffic due to demonstration on A58 West Street around Marlborough Street. "Free Palestine" protest ongoing."

However, many Leeds residents have contacted the YEP to complain of longer delays at Westgate and around the centre.

First West Yorks tweeted: "SERVICE UPDATE

"We are currently experiencing delays to some of our Leeds services between 15 and 30 minutes due to traffic building around the city centre.

"Services currently affected are: 2, 3, 3A, 12, 13, 13A, 34, 51, 52"

Services X6 and 72 have been diverted via Wellington Street and King Street due to heavy traffic at Westgate, First bus confirmed.
