A1 carriageway closed due to serious crash at Wetherby Services

Police have closed the A1 southbound carriageway after a "serious crash".

The carriageway is expected to be closed until at least 4pm on Friday - which could cause serious traffic delays.

North Yorkshire Police said officers are at the scene with a Collision Investigation Unit.

The force has asked drivers to use alternative routes until further notice.

Traffic is now building in the area.

North Yorkshire Police said: "A1 Southbound closed at Wetherby Services due to serious collision.

"It is expected to be closed for the next hour and a half.

"Officers are at the scene along with the Collision Investigation Unit (CIU).

"Please use alternative routes until further notice. Updates to follow."
