Teenage motorcyclist seriously injured after crash with car in Leeds

An 18-year-old motorcyclist has been seriously injured after a collision with a car in Headingley.

Police were called to the crash on Kirkstall Lane at 4.40pm on Sunday.

A Yamaha 125 motorcycle and Hyundai i20 car had collided leaving the 18-year-old man with serious injuries.

The road between the junction of Kirkstall Lane, Queenswood Drive and St Ann's Place was closed while the police waited for updates from the hospital.

It was reopened at about 7.30pm after it was established the rider had a broken ankle and bruising and his injuries were not life threatening.

The driver of the Hyundai car stopped at the scene and was spoken to by officers.

The 18-year-old's mum, Shelley McGrath, thanked a woman at the scene for her help after the crash.

Shelley said: "The lovely lady who helped my son tonight after a bad accident in Headingley - you helped keep him calm and looked after him until the ambulance and police arrived.

"From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. He’s doing great, managed just a broken ankle it looked so much worse than it was."
