Morley business park commuters offered free bike MOTs

A Morley business park which has 1,600 people working on its site is holding a one-off event to encourage more commuters to cycle.

Leeds traffic consultancy Bryan G Hall and the city’s go:cycling team will be running a workshop at Capitol Park West in Tingley on Thursday June 23 and all are welcome to drop in for advice and guidance about getting on your bike.

A bike mechanic and cycle coaches will all be on hand for the free drop-in event in the Village Hotel car park from 11.30am-2.30pm.

The office park’s developers Sterling Capitol are keen to increase the proportion of the site’s workforce who commute on two wheels.

The Dr Bike surgery will see cyclists offered free health checks for their bikes and given the chance to ask a travel plan co-ordinator and go:cycling experts their questions.

Rachael Bateman from organisers Bryan G Hall said:

“It is extremely important to raise the profile of cycling as an efficient, cheap, healthy and environmentally-friendly method of getting to and from work. Events like this do exactly that.

“Cycle experts will be on hand to talk about cycling locally and discuss any travel-related queries you might have. The cycle health checks will be undertaken on a first come, first served basis. Don’t miss this great opportunity, and even if you don’t own a bike feel free to come and speak to us.”

Sterling Capitol managing director Mike Heydecke is also a keen supporter of the Dr Bike clinic:

“We are pleased to host an event which underlines the importance of cycling as a sustainable means of getting to and from work, as well as being part of a healthy lifestyle. Although we have car parking spaces on site, we want to encourage more people to come to work on their cycles, because it eases the traffic flow, helps the environment and is good for their health.”
