Series of measures agreed by Leeds Council to minimise roadworks and closures over Christmas period
A series of measures have been agreed by Leeds City Council to minimise disruption on the city’s roads this Christmas.
City leaders have been liaising with contractors to ensure any disruption on the road network is kept to a minimum over the holiday period.
Where possible, traffic management restrictions have been removed across Leeds, while lane closures are set to be reduced across all ongoing major schemes where traffic management measures can’t be completely removed.

A Leeds City Council spokesperson said: “At locations where major projects are underway, such as Dawsons Corner, Lawnswood Roundabout and other major developments across the city centre including Wetherby, it will not be possible to withdraw all associated traffic management, but measures are being taken to minimise lane closures and to ensure effective traffic flow and sites are left in a safe condition.
“Working with relevant partners and recognising the importance of the trading period leading up to Christmas, the start of some schemes, including significant utilities works, have been delayed until the new year.”
Disruption to Dawsons Corner and Stanningley Bypass, as part of a £44 million improvement scheme, is set to remain in place until early 2027, although fresh restrictions are not due to come into force until the New year.
Similarly construction work on the controversial revamp to the Lawnswood roundabout junction, of the A6120 Outer Ring Road and A660 Otley Road, is also set to be reduced over the festive period. Motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys via council’s PlanAhead page.
