M1 Wakefield crash: Live traffic updates as accident closes motorway near Lofthouse Interchange

M1 closed after crash
The M1 northbound is shut between Wakefield (junction 41) and Lofthouse Interchange (junction 42) following the accident.
Emergency services are at the scene.

Diversion routes in full
Vehicles with a weight limit under 7.5 tonnes are advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol on road signs:
- Leave the M1 at J41 and at the roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A650.
- Follow the A650 for approx. 2 miles until the junction with the M62 J28 and at the roundabout take the 5th exit to join the M62 eastbound.
- Continue on the M62 eastbound until J29 and rejoin the M1 northbound to continue your journey.
Vehicles weighing over 7.5 tonnes are advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol on road signs:
- Leave the M1 northbound at J40 and at the roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A638.
- Follow the A638 for approx. 2 miles to the roundabout with the B6128 and take the 3rd exit onto the B6128.
- Continue on the B6128 for approx. 1 mile to the junction with the A653 and turn right onto the A653.
- Proceed on the A653 for approx. 2miles to the roundabout with the M62 at J28. At the roundabout take the 4th exit onto the M62 eastbound.
- Follow the M62 eastbound back to J29 and rejoin the M1 northbound to continue your journey.
Severe delays
There are long delays on the approach to the crash on the M1, close to Lofthouse Interchange.
The AA reports: “Road closed, delays and stationary traffic due to recovery work and crash on M1 Northbound from J41 A650 Royston Hill (Carrgate) to J42 M62 J29 (Lofthouse).
“Severe delays of 22 minutes and delays easing on M1 Northbound between J39 A636 Denby Dale Road (Wakefield / Durkar) and J42 M62 J29 (Lofthouse). Average speed ten mph.”
