A final round of surfacing works are due to get underway at Dawson’s Corner.

Starting tomorrow night, the Dawsons Corner and Stanningley Bypass improvement scheme will move another step closer to completion, with a major programme of final road surfacing.

The surfacing will be carried out in phases to help manage disruption, with closures affecting different parts of Dawsons Corner, Bradford Road, Stanningley Bypass and Owlcotes Lane at different times.

How long will the works take place?

The work will take place between Monday, November 9, and Sunday, November 29, with a series of overnight lane and road closures needed across Dawsons Corner and surrounding routes.

They will generally take place between 8pm and 5am, with roads and lanes reopening each morning. As road surfacing can be affected by poor weather, the programme may be subject to change, with contingency dates built in where required.

Will other access points be maintained?

Access arrangements for New Pudsey Station will change during some phases, while temporary restrictions will also be needed at the entrances to some residential streets.

Residents and businesses directly affected will receive separate information about access arrangements. Businesses in the area, including Owlcotes Shopping Centre, will remain open as usual throughout the works.

What work still needs to be completed?

Following the main surfacing programme, further overnight works are planned between Monday, November 30 and the end of December, with resident access maintained.

The finishing stages will also include final adjustments and tuning to the new traffic signals, landscaping and tree planting.

How has the revamp changed the junction?

Despite the disruption caused by the massive overhaul, Yorkshire Evening Post readers previously took to social media to praise the new look junction, calling it “much improved” and “money well spent.”

The revamp has seen the old roundabout removed and a new through road created.

Why are the works taking place?

The £44 million scheme is transforming one of Leeds' busiest junctions, improving journeys and creating safer and more accessible routes for people walking, wheeling and cycling, while supporting more reliable bus services and connections between Leeds and Bradford.

Once completed in early 2027, the scheme will provide improved walking and cycling connections, enhanced bus infrastructure, additional road capacity and new landscaping.
