Top five: Independent Yorkshire bookshops worth a try

There is nothing nicer than curling up with a good book especially if you head to an independent bookshop.

Book Corner

The book shop with a sea view opened in Saltburn in 2014 and has gone from strength to strength. Owner Jenna Warren stocks a carefully selected range of titles. The Little Ripon Bookshop

The owner’s love of all things literary seeps through this bookshop on Westgate. As well as keeping you up to date with the latest award winners, there is a top five of recommended reads, a thriving book club and children’s storytime on selected Tuesday afternoons. Littleriponbookshop.co.uk

White Rose Book Cafe

The award-winning bookshop and café in Thirsk holds a host of book-related events each month including a Bloomin’ Words cabaret evening and weekly children’s storytime. With access to all British and American books in print, the shop can provide super quick service.

Little Apple Bookshop

Not every shop can boast a shortlisted Man Booker Prize author on their staff but this one can. Part-time assistant Fiona Mozley’s debut novel Elmet, takes pride of place by the till in High Petergate, York. It has a great range of signed books which make great special gifts.

The Book Case

A big part of the Hebden Bridge community, the shop has come back even stronger since the floods in 2013. Well stocked with fiction and non-fiction titles, children’s books, literary gifts and stationary, with a sizeable collection of local history title, it is also a hub for author events and book signings.
