Stitch-Up will be transforming The Art Space, Leeds Central Library into a magical Japanese wonderland this winter. Showcasing Japanese yarn craft, Stitch-Up will be incorporating the rich, artisan crafts of a culture steeped in tradition fused with the vibrancy and uniqueness of a fascinating and modern Japan. Think brilliant orange temples and crisp white snowflakes with a sprinkling of colourful Kawaii.

The British Art Show is the largest touring exhibition in the UK and is organised every five years by Hayward Touring. Each edition is dedicated to showcasing the best work of a new generation of artists. The artists are chosen on the grounds of their contribution to art in this country over the last five years – making the British Art Show a vital measure of where contemporary art in the UK is now. When the British Art Show moves to Edinburgh in January 2016, Leeds Art Gallery will be closing its doors for a year for essential refurbishment works to the iconic Victorian building so this will be the last chance to enjoy the gallery before it reopens in 2017.

Exploring themes of spectacle, the touring show and the effects of movement and migration on industry, culture and concepts of the self, three new commissions will be displayed inside and outside The Tetley, including outdoor billboard sites across the city. Featuring works by Lubaina Himid, Susan Walsh, Simeon Barclay and Delaine Le Bas, the show takes as its starting point the now famous footage of horse-drawn carriages crossing Leeds Bridge in 1888, believed to be the first use of moving film in history.
