Timelapse video reveals how Victoria Gate development has transformed Leeds skyline

Using footage from the scheme’s two live web cameras, it captures key construction milestones throughout the process.

The video, released by developer Hammerson, starts from the initial demolition work in December 2014 and continues right through to the cladding being completed on the John Lewis building.

James Hepburn, development manager at Hammerson, said: “Our time-lapse videos have proved an extremely popular way for everyone interested in the scheme to keep updated on everything happening at Victoria Gate.

“The latest overview shows the great progress that has been made to date and the impact the development has already made on the Leeds city skyline.”

He added: “As we enter into launch year, we are looking forward to chronicling the remaining construction milestones during what is an exciting time.

“In the coming weeks, glazing will be installed and the work to connect the arcade and John Lewis building will be completed.”

Work began in April 2014 on Victoria Gate.

It is due to open later this year and will include one of the largest John Lewis stores outside of London, as well as a casino, a multi-storey car park for more than 800 cars and an arcade with 30 stores, restaurants, cafés and leisure space.

The first phase will also deliver up to 1,000 retail and hospitality jobs and up to 1,000 construction employment opportunities on site during the construction phases of the scheme.
