Streetsmart: Leeds homeless campaign already succeeding

StreetSmart has been taking place in Leeds for nine years and this year’s event, running until the end of December, is raising money for three organisations.

Ten restaurants across the city have signed up and are collecting £1 donations from customers to then hand over at the end of the scheme.

Benefitting from the cash will be Caring for Life, St George’s Crypt and Leeds Women’s Aid.

Caring For Life is a registered Christian charity, providing homeless or vulnerable people with accommodation, ongoing support, love and friendship. The organisation founded in 1986 when several homeless young men started attending Leeds Reformed Baptist Church.

St George’s Crypt works with the homeless, vulnerable and those suffering from addiction. It has 54 bed spaces, 365 days a year, covering two hostels and an overnight Centre.

Leeds Women’s Aid’s mission is to protect women and children in Leeds from the damage that domestic violence can inflict on their lives. They provide women a range of services including temporary supported housing, outreach support, telephone support and floating support.

Rachel McAlley, Campaign Manager said; “Every penny raised will go to these Charities. Our financial sponsor Deutsche Bank cover all administration costs which means that every pound will go directly to Caring for Life, St George’s Crypt, and Leeds Women’s Aid, all very worthwhile Charities.”
