Grant Woodward says 'In Love With Leeds', which celebrates 125 years of the Yorkshire Evening Post, is full of surprising stories about the city.

Now a brand new book will chart that remarkable story using fascinating extracts from the YEP’s archives and incredible images that reveal the course of the city we know and love.

In Love With Leeds takes a look at some of the biggest stories that have gripped us over the course of the last 125 years.

It gives the lowdown on the era-defining events that have unfolded here, the visits from royalty, world leaders and the planet’s biggest music stars.

YEP feature writer and columnist Grant Woodward, who has written the book, said: “I wanted to tell the story of Leeds in a way that had never been done before. Going through the YEP’s archives has been absolutely fascinating.

“I think there will be something to surprise and interest everyone. There are some wonderful photographs in there too that people won’t ever have seen before.”

The book covers everything from the earliest days of the paper in 1890 at a time when Leeds was growing bigger and more ambitious, attaining city status three years later.

It looks at Leeds’s contribution during the wars and the huge changes that have taken place in the city.

The last Leeds tram passes through the city, November 7, 1959.

There is in-depth coverage of the glory years of Leeds United and the successes enjoyed by the Leeds Rhinos.

Some of the biggest events to take place in the city are also covered in brilliant detail, along with the era-defining music concerts to take place here – and much more besides.
