Snap happy as pictures on show

Richard Greenwood has spent all his working life in financial services, but away from the confines of office life, his passion is for the great outdoors and in particular, wildlife photography.

The pension transfer specialist treated himself to a camera for his 40th birthday and his talents are becoming increasingly recognised in ever higher circles.

For the past two years, Richard, who lives in Burley in Wharfedale, has had images short-listed in the prestigious British Wildlife Photography Awards in 2015 and 2016.

His pictures have also featured in two Collins’ field guides published on behalf of the British Trust for Ornithology, plus a variety of other publications.

Now Richard, who is self-taught, has been selected as the featured artist by Otley’s Courthouse Gallery, where an exhibition of his work will be on display throughout October.

Richard, 47, said: “I’ve had an interest in wildlife ever since I was a boy but it’s only in the last two or three years that I have started recording some of it on camera. I get a lot of enjoyment out of it. It’s an enjoyable hobby and it gets me outdoors and out in the countryside.

“I do a lot of it when I am out and about with the family and walking the dogs.

“Whenever I go on holiday or am out in the Dales the camera comes with me.”

The exhibition features 30 of Richard’s favourite nature studies, mostly shot around the Dales and the Yorkshire coast.

Included among them will be his entries that did so well at this year’s British Wildlife Photography Awards, with a selection of framed and unframed prints available for purchase.
