Selfies are picture perfect

And Mindy Goose’s montage of self-portraits certainly caught the eye of the judge looking through the hundreds of images sent in to Leeds City Museum’s Changing Faces of Leeds exhibition.

Taking first place in the self-portrait category, Mindy’s photo was created during a workshop that looked at women’s confidence and awareness.

The judge was looking for images that said something about the person they portrayed and which explored the process of making a self-portrait.

In her submission, Mindy said: “I made this self-portrait during a workshop I created for Together Women Project. The workshop explored the positive self, confidence and self-awareness. We are multifaceted people with many layers and many emotions, many faces.”

The judge’s comments read: “Like the selfies, these make me smile, think, laugh, jump for joy.”

The Changing Faces of Leeds exhibition, which is currently being shown at Leeds City Museum, features a series of unique and colourful images spanning generations of people who have lived or worked in the city. More than 500 entries were submitted by amateur snappers across Leeds. The museum team then chose a selection to appear in the final display.

Councillor Judith Blake, Leader of Leeds City Council, said: “This exhibition is a powerful statement about our heritage, our history, and the diverse, dynamic and booming city that Leeds has grown into thanks to the people who have called it home both in the past and today.”

Changing Faces of Leeds runs until June 5. The exhibition also features workshops and events for children and adults.
