Roundhay School geography star takes on the world

A Roundhay School sixth former who was sponsored by Leeds Beckett University has achieved the highest score by a British student at this year's International Geography Olympiad.

George Breckenridge was placed 22nd out of 173 competitors at the event, which challenges the best 16 to 19-year-old geography students from across the globe and was held in Beijing.

Awarded a sponsorship fund of £500 from the School of Built Environment and Engineering, George was one of four UK students chosen from tens of thousands worldwide to take part in the competition.

“It was amazing. First and foremost, I was travelling to mount a challenge to the world title and prove that UK competitors can succeed even at the highest level. The UK team were placed ninth out of 45 teams – the best ever ranking for a UK team,” said George.
