Schoolchildren have been given the chance to put an agricultural robot to the test in their classroom.

Sixty pupils at Lawns Park Primary School in Leeds were joined by Leeds West MP Rachel Reeves for workshops that brought to life a new national competition launched by the National Farmers’ Union.

Called Farmvention, schools must solve three farming challenges. The final is held at the House of Commons next year.

Yesterday, pupils used an ‘agbot’ to explore the chemical reactions needed to inflate a ‘science chicken’s’ comb and prepare healthy snacks.

Mrs Reeves said: “It’s so important that children understand where food comes from and how it gets onto our plate. Farmvention is all about explaining that process, while also highlighting the technology and skills harnessed by the farming industry.”
