Road closed after Wakefield crash

Firefighters have freed a woman who was trapped in her car after a crash near Wakefield city centre.

Crews from Wakefield fire station were called to Dewsbury Road just after 6pm when two cars collided near the junction with Horbury Road.

A fire service spokesman said the woman had been put in the care of Yorkshire Ambulance Service paramedics.

The road is closed while emergency services continue to work at the scene.

West Yorkshire Metro said the A638 Dewsbury Road was blocked both ways.

Arriva bus services 102 and 117 are diverting via Horbury Road and George-a-green road.
