Reunion event proves a hit as hundreds flock to Leeds club

Leeds residents turned back the clock yesterday at one of the city's biggest reunion events.

Around 200 people packed into Edmund House Club on Pontefract Lane, East End Park, to toast how life used to be in what is often described as ‘old east Leeds’.

The annual event – which featured an impressive display of vintage photos – is primarily aimed at people who grew up in the LS9 postcode area and communities like Cross Green, Richmond Hill and East End Park during the 1940s and 1950s.

Edmund House Club secretary Adele Kendrew told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “It’s always a great occasion, one of the highlights of the year. The atmosphere is lovely with everyone reminiscing.”

The event started life in modest fashion about 25 years ago as a gathering of a few friends who used to attend Leeds Parish Church Market District Boys’ Club.
