Refurb for Headingley Italian favourite

One of Leeds' long-standing Italian restaurants is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a £250,000 refurbishment programme - the biggest in its history.

Salvo’s has been a favourite on the trendy Headingley food circuit for four decades after being opened by Salvatore Dammone in 1976.

It is now being run by the second generation of the family, Salvo’s sons John and Gip, who are bringing a totally new look to the family business.

Walnut interior and intimate lighting will complement the contemporary bar serving craft beers, Italian wines and classic cocktails while guests relax before their meal in the restaurant or from the new bar menu.

The kitchen at the Otley Road restaurant has been opened up too to reveal a new Italian coal fired pizza oven.

Gip said: “In order to create something lasting we know that you must adapt and grow and our investment is testament to our belief in providing the best possible experience for our guests, old and new.”

Referring to the restaurant’s place in the The Good Food Guide since 1985, its AA Rosettes and several titles bestowed by the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Oliver awards, John added: “When my father opened Salvo’s in 1976 he had a vision of bringing a piece of his beloved Italy to Leeds. Five decades later, we’re proud to be committed to upholding our family’s ethos of serving authentic southern Italian food.”

The restaurant has been closed from the beginning of this week to allow for the works to take place and will be re-opening next week on Friday March 3.
