Question over flooded Leeds flats

a query has been raised by a senior Conservative councillor about the numbers of flats classified as '˜flooded' following the Boxing Day events in Leeds.

Council papers state that 2,053 flats in the city were flooded, of a total of 2,300 residential properties. However Coun Andrew Carter asked for clarification of these figures at the executive board meeting. (March 9)

He was told whereever flooding took place in undercrofts and electricity and water were cut off, people were evacuated.

This meant their homes were classified as ‘flooded’ under definitions provided by Government guidance. It was pointed out the stated figure is the one the Government uses for evaluating grant allocations for flood victims.
