The page read: "Last weekend was the 51st anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion in which trans and non-binary played key roles.

"The rebellion gave birth to gay pride and all of today's Pride parades.

"We need a new rebellion now against the tide of transphobia in the UK.

"We are trans and cis women who are disgusted by the attack on trans rights.

"Join us in a socially distanced protest to call on the government to deliver the promised reforms to the Gender Recognition Act."

'Cis' is a term for people whose gender identity matches their sex assigned at birth, though some people reject this label.

The protest comes amid growing concern that the Government is not going to reform UK gender identity laws after a long consultation.

The 2004 Gender Recognition Act (GRA) sets out the legal process by which a person can change their gender.

Currently, the gender law requires a medical diagnosis, or presentation of evidence, for trans people to get their identity legally recognised.

Trans people and supporters argue the current process is dehumanising, but concerns have also been raised by women's rights groups and others about the possible changes.

The event page read: "The Tories have decided to ignore the result of the GRA reform consultation.

"Despite 70 percent of respondents being in favour of self-identification for Trans people, the government look set to roll back Trans rights and undermine the gains made so far.

"Meanwhile a disproportionate amount of media time is given over to people who are trans-exclusionary while the British Social Attitudes Survey shows that women in particular are in favour of Trans rights.

"It is only a minority with loud voices that purport to speak for women who disagree.

"We are fed up with media portrayal that pits trans rights and women’s rights against each other.

"The fight for bodily autonomy is something that both trans people and women have fought for for many years and we refuse to accept a right-wing agenda that tries to create conflict between us.

"Join us to say we stand together, trans and cis, for trans rights, for liberation and for bodily autonomy for all."

The event has been organised by author Laura Miles, the first trans person elected to the national executive committee of a UK trade union and Kate Mayer, a cis Jewish socialist who has campaigned against racism and oppression.
